Reconstruction of a major tibial bone defect
Staged treatment of an approximately 15 cm tibial defect accompanied by a soft-tissue defect and common peroneal nerve neuropathy.
Given the complexity of the injury, gradual shortening of the lower limb was combined with the use of local tissues and staged plastic-tissue advancement. This approach improved the conditions for prolonged wound healing and restoration of soft-tissue coverage.
At the next stage, an aluminium-alloy OSTEOMET frame was installed with rigid foot fixation adapted to the existing neuropathy. The construct enabled three osteotomy zones for simultaneous regenerate formation and gradual restoration of soft-tissue balance.
Further treatment involves gradual compression at the defect site and controlled restoration of bone structure. Active patient participation is essential: the patient understands the staged protocol and takes part in monitoring the recovery process.
We thank the clinical team for their coordinated work and implementation of a technology that expands the treatment options for complex limb defects.
